Frederik Philips Prize for best Dutch Radiological Thesis

I was recently awarded the Frederik Philips Prize for the best radiological thesis of 2021. I gave an interview which was published in the Dutch MemoRad, available online.

Interview with Ilona Dekkers published in the MemoRad (Volume 26, issue 3, 2021) – the Radiological Society of the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor de Radiologie):

From the jury head prof. Mathias Prokop: ‘Ilona has delivered an import contribution to science with by studying the relationship between obesity and various organs such the kidneys, myocardium and the brain in her thesis. Her thesis stands out, because it not only involves a wide range of MRI techniques, but also integrates non-radiological clinical and epidemiological studies. Moreover, all 10 scientific articles have been published in leading international journals in the field. In particular her focus on the effects of obesity, diabetes and renal steatosis are bound breaking: quantification of this organ is notoriously difficult, but Ilona has shown that successful treatment of diabetes can also be measured in the kidney. By having a broad basis in her studies inside and outside our own specialism gives Ilona a good example of the radiological investigator of the future.’
